#40YearsStrong
Exploring and commemorating 40 years of Women's Health in South Tyneside.
Heritage discovered and shared by women, for women.
About the Salus Heritage Project

Women's Health in South Tyneside (WHiST) turned 40 this year, and we’re looking back across the decades to the years since our foundation in 1986.
With the help of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we're digging into our archives and recording women's stories to commemorate 40 years of empowering women across decades of social change.
We aim to honour the strength, diversity, and resilience of women who have shaped our community: how women have coped, thrived, and led change. This will commemorate our past but also inform our future.

Telling our stories
Since 1986, WHiST has amassed a great number of documents, images and press clippings. Our volunteers are working to catalogue and digitise these so that they're more readily available to aid future research.
People often don't realise that the memories and stories that they have will be of great interest to others. Whatever your connection with WHiST and South Tyneside, we're keen to hear about it - we're recording these stories and will edit some of them into themed podcasts to help preserve and share our unique heritage.

Events: Come and Join In
We are running a series of events and roadshows focused on women's lives and their social and cultural context over the past 40 years . Our Across the Decades events are held roughly monthly here at WHiST, featuring themed activities, music, food and fun. And we'll be taking events and exhibitions on tour - just get in touch to find out more.
We are pinning our history on the map - our Historypin collection, "Women's Lives on South Tyneside: Our Stories" is a growing repository showcasing the lives of significant women and the changing landscape of South Tyneside.
